PhD Defense of Marvin Illian

Marvin Illian successfully defended his PhD thesis titled “Adaptive Connectivity Management in Heterogeneous Mobile Networks” on September 7, 2026. Congratulations!
The PhD thesis investigates how cellular networks can move from static, manually tuned connectivity management toward adaptive, data-driven control. It develops energy-aware band switching for connected users and reinforcement-learning-based cell reselection for idle users, showing that standards-compatible adaptation can reduce device energy consumption and significantly improve network throughput, load balancing, and user performance.
